Victor Afari-Sefa
Dr Victor Afari-Sefa, a citizen of Ghana, is an Agricultural Economist and Research for Development Practitioner, with 25 years post-graduation experience in research implementation and management; programmes and projects design, implementation management; project feasibility, monitoring, learning evaluation and impact assessment; and resource allocation. He joined ICRISAT in March 2022 as the Global Research Program Director – Enabling Systems Transformation. From December 2023 to June 2024, he was assigned additional responsibilities as Acting Deputy Director General – Research. Before joining ICRISAT, he was the West and Central Africa Regional Director of the World Vegetable Center (WorldVeg) from 2017 to 2022 based in Benin. From 2011 to 2017, he was Global Theme Leader - Consumption of WorldVeg based in Tanzania. Victor holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the Justus-Liebig University Giessen, Giessen, Germany. He also has complementary executive education in leadership and management provided by the Harvard Business School, Boston, USA.
Fatma Boukid
Dr. Fatma Boukid is a food scientist and senior project manager at ClonBio Group Ltd., Ireland. She specializes in the characterization of plant-based proteins and fibers, focusing on their functionality in food applications. Her work bridges scientific discovery and market-driven innovation to develop next-generation sustainable food products.
Stanley Cauvain
Stanley Cauvain is a Past ICC President and author of technical books on flour milling and baking. He is Director of the global technical consultancu BakeTran specializing in the development of new bakery products and processes.
Professor Mohammad Naushad Emmambux is a distinguished academic and researcher based at the University of Pretoria (UP), South Africa. He holds a full professorship in the Department of Consumer and Food Sciences and serves as the research leader for food processing at the DST/NRF Centre of Excellence in Food Security .Prof. Emmambux completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Mauritius and pursued his postgraduate studies at UP, earning both his MSc and PhD in Food Science there. He has been with UP for over two decades, contributing significantly to the field of food science through research and teaching.His research interests lie in the chemistry and technology of food biopolymers, aiming to enhance nutrition, functionality.
Rainer Haas is professor for Agribusiness and Food Marketing at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (Universität für Bodenkultur Wien, www.boku.ac.at) at the Institute of Marketing & Innovation since 2004. More than 25 years of experience in research, teaching and extension in the field of agricultural and food value chain marketing. His research focus is on consumer behavior and marketing of food products. He got several awards such as the Austrian Agricultural Marketing Award, the Austrian Agrana Research Award and the Emerald Literati Network Award
From 2010 to 2018 he was repeatedly guest professor for teaching and research at the University of Florida.
Marta López Cifuentes holds a doctorate from BOKU University (Austria) in sustainable food systems. In 2022, she was awarded an Erwin Schrödinger Fellowship by the Austrian Science Fund, which enabled her to work as a visiting researcher at the Centre for Environment and Sustainability at the University of Surrey (UK). Currently, she is based at the Institute for Sustainable Economic Development (BOKU University), where she serves as the principal investigator for the Austrian component of the "Trans-Local Food Coalitions" project. Her research addresses key issues in sustainability transformations, with a particular emphasis on democracy and justice within food systems. She has extensive experience in inter- and transdisciplinary research. In addition to her academic endeavours, she is an active member of the Viennese Food Policy Council, where she engages in shaping the local food system.
Alison leads the grain quality group at Rothamsted Research. Her research addresses strategic priorities of “Food Nutrition and Health”. Her main focus of research is in exploiting cereal grains for improved human health and processing, specifically the content and composition of dietary fibre, phytochemicals and minerals in wheat grain. The goal is to deliver stacked enhanced nutritional traits into elite cultivars for maximum beneficial impact. Her group has extensive experience in carbohydrate, protein and phytochemical analysis and characterisation, using state-of the art HP-AEC, RP-HPLC, SEC-MALS, PACE and mass spectrometry.
Alessandra Marti is Full Professor of Food Science and Technology at the Department of Food, Environmental and Nutritional Sciences (DeFENS) at the University of Milan.Her main research activity focuses on the set-up of (bio)technological processes for enhancing the functional properties of major and minor grains and related products.Professor Marti is the author of more than 100 scientific publications and several book chapters. She has led multiple research projects, including industrial collaborations, and has been an invited speaker at numerous international conferences. She currently serves as one of the Technical Co-Directors of the International Association of Cereal Science and Technology (ICC) and is a board member of the Italian Association for Cereal Science and Technology (AISTEC). She is also part of the editorial board of international journals.
Urs Niggli is a renowned Swiss agricultural scientist and a global pioneer in organic farming and agroecology. He served as Director of the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) Switzerland from 1990 to 2020, transforming it into one of the world’s leading research centers in sustainable agriculture. Under his leadership, FiBL expanded internationally and gained scientific recognition for its interdisciplinary work.
He studied agricultural sciences at ETH Zurich and earned a doctorate in plant physiology. Since stepping down from FiBL, Niggli has founded and now leads Agroecology.Science, focusing on sustainable food systems. He also serves as President of FiBL Austria and advises national and international bodies, including Agroscope, the Swiss FAO Committee, and the UN Food Systems Summit.
Niggli holds honorary professorships in Germany and China and has received several awards, including the Klipstein Science Prize in 2023 for his contributions to agroecological food systems.
